The father of O'Grady is Jim O'Grady. Her mother, Jan, was a financial planner. Her family raised her by their parents who resided in Wheaton in Illinois and graduated in 1981 with a diploma from the Wheaton North High School. The model appeared in commercials for a while before moving out to Los Angeles. O'Grady's career began as a model and commercial actress for Montgomery Ward.
